INDEPENDENT STUDY
What is Independent Study?
Telos is committed to helping students graduate with a high school diploma. We understand that some students come to the Academy deficient in credits. Other students need courses that are not normally offered by one of our certified teachers. When this is the case, students can take independent study courses to earn these needed credits.
How Does Independent Study Work?
Independent Study courses are offered through Brigham Young University. Since this is a third-party school, parents order the courses and pay any accompanying tuition/fees.
Course packets arrive in the mail, and students work on all coursework under the supervision of a certified teacher. Students submit all assignments online or through the mail. When students complete all assignments, they will complete a final exam under the supervision of a certified proctor.
How Much Credit Will My Son Earn Through an Independent Study Course?
Most courses are usually worth .5 of credit—which is equivalent to 4.5 months of classroom instruction. Depending on how quickly students complete their Independent Study coursework, they can earn this credit in as little as 4 weeks.
What are the Additional Costs for Independent Study?
Course usually cost $175 to $200 for a 0.5 Credit (Half-Year) course packet.
What If My Son Has Trouble Working Independently?
